Half of the Syrian refugees who have fled to Germany are experiencing psychological distress and mental illness resulting from trauma. 


70% had witnessed violence and that about 50% were victims of violence themselves.



There are three major potentially traumatic backgrounds: being involved in a war in Syria, being a refugee and arriving in a new foreign country



40% of adult refugees experienced nightmares, and 50% had vivid flashbacks reliving a tramaumatic event.


40% of the children who were evaluated had witnessed violence, and 26% had watched their families being attacked


1 in 5 refugee children suffers from a psychological disorder as a result of trauma.
